I studied photography at Nottingham Trent University in 1981 and in the same year, passed my driving test and qualified as a hot air balloon pilot. Hot air ballooning has taken me to many interesting places around the world and enabled me to get some great aerial shots. Balloons make great camera platforms for taking pictures and also give you a totally different perspective. Some years ago I flew hot air balloons in Africa with a company called Balloon Safaris, based in Kenya. It was all my dreams come true. Adventure, ballooning, photography and wildlife. I returned to the UK and went back to University this time to study Zoology. As jobs in conservation were hard to come by I took a U turn and for many years worked in PR and event management, in the not-for-profit and corporate sectors. I was still armed with a camera though!
Technology was changing and I was apprehensive about going digital. I hate reading manuals and boring instruction books, don't you?
Perseverance and plenty of patience later and I switched my Nikon F3 to a D200 to start off with. Wow... technology was great, is great. I found that all the things I had been doing in the darkroom I could now do on a screen and faster.
I love taking pictures of people. I am a natural light person, I love the way light falls on certain subjects, illuminates a shot, a flower, a face. Where possible I prefer to take portraits in natural light.
My pictures are available to buy as prints and cards and also as canvasses. i can also make you a photo CD of your family pictures set to music, supply you with good quality prints or high resolution images for marketing and advertising. I am also available for press work.
